“Hawk Soars,” (Finger doodle) by Meyo Marrufo, 2024
My uncle left this world tonight. He leaves his body, his pain, his fatigue…he becomes like the hawk flying free…soaring and saying his goodbyes…as he goes into the stars.
MWGOE is thankful for this sharing of art, representing the cycle of life and healing.

Meyo Marrufo is Eastern Pomo from the Clear Lake basin. While her tribe is from Robinson

many gifted artists over the years, focusing on cultural arts, regalia making, and traditional foods
and cooking techniques. Meyo teaches classes on the continuation of tribal knowledge and
renewing it for future generations in Northern California. When she started coming of age, she
began to learn traditional Pomo regalia and food preparation from the ground up. As she
deepened her art practice, she began sharing her knowledge in cultural arts, regalia making and
traditional foods with others. Her digital artwork shows examples of basket patterns, traditional
dancing, and Pomo life, and is shown throughout California. Her interests and feelings about
